Use a tester at the store on the inside of your wrist. That usually should be true to your color. How do I pick right color for foundation ?
use the teaters. DO NOT APPLY the makeup to the back of your hand because the skin on your hands is diffrent. a really good tip is to test the makeup on your jaw line and see what colour maches your skin tone best
instead of trying to match the foundation to your face match it to your chest and neck. Then when you get home you will match and look good.
Head to JC Penney, Younkers, basically any department store with a cosmetics counter. Let the associate know you want a color analysis. They will help you figure out your true shade for foundation.

If you want to try another option. Find an avon rep...and call her. They always have samples you can use, and you can try them at home under natural light. Then either order thru avon, or go to the store with the knowledge of your true coloring

good luck!
I had the same problem. God knows how may brands I have tried and they all failed me. You need to get free samples and try them in different lights to make sure they match. Also, mineral makeup is the best because they all look natural. Try everydayminerals.com. This company sends samples to you for free.
When choosing foundation color, do not match it to your face color, match it to your neck color. Your face will be made up of all different tones, while your neck will be more natural to your color. Also you need to figure out of you have neutral or golden undertones in your skin. Good luck
TEST IT ON YOU BACK OF YOU HAND AND IT SHOULD JUST DISAPPEAR
first of all it needs to match your neck color and it should be very similar to your natural skin color, only make it look cleaner. hope this helps
When you are trying the foundation before you buy it, make sure that it is daytime and you have time to go outside with a mirror to check out the color. if you can't, even if the color is just a little off, make sure that you cover your entire neck with the foundation so that you dont have the cut off at the jawbone. thats how people notice you're wearing the wrong color. I hope this helps. It helped me:)
Consider your skin type. Before you pick the right shade, you need to find out the right formulation for your skin. Are you oily? Dry? Combination?

Pick the right formula. If you're oily, look for words like 'oil-free' or 'oil-control' on the bottle. Got dry skin? Go for moisturizing foundations with 'hydrating' or 'moisture-rich' wording on the bottle. For combo skin, determine if you're more oily or dry and go from there. Cream-to-powder bases work great for combo skin.

Show up to the makeup counter with a clean, fresh face. It's OK to wear eye makeup or lipstick, even moisturizer on your face, but you don't want to show up already wearing foundation.

Select a few colors that seem close to your natural skin tone. Go for the yellow-based foundations, which look most natural on all skin tones. However, if you're very fair, try a pink, cooler shade.

Apply a couple dots of each color on areas of your jawline (the inner wrist or hand aren't the best spots, contrary to popular belief).

Take a good, long look -- near a window. Ask to borrow a hand mirror and stand near a doorway, or step outside, to see which foundation looks best in the natural light. The right shade is one that you can't see because it blends in so well. If you are purchasing from a drugstore, take a couple bottles to a doorway, hold them up to your neck and see which one matches the best.

Once you've bought the foundation, take it home and try it out. If you don't like it you can return it. If you're buying from a drugstore, purchase from one with a liberal return policy (like Rite Aid).

Tips:

Try the color out on your jawline, not your wrist or hand

Remember to stand in a doorway or outside to see if the color matches

A foundation with sunscreen is a safe bet, but you will still need to wear sunscreen under your foundation. Also considering skipping foundation %26amp; opting for a tinted moisturizer instead.

Believe it or not, today foundation is totally optional. It's healthier for your skin NOT to wear foundation daily. If you have blemishes or pimples, try strategically placed concealer instead. Or just wear the foundation on the parts that need it most, likely around your nose %26amp; eyes %26amp; on your chin. Just make sure to blend properly.

Go for different looks for evening and day. A light foundation is perfect for work or weekend. While a sexy shimmer is great for evening.
U should really go to a mall and let the lady do it for you! it always looks good cause they know wat they r doing.
